VIOLIN TECHNIQUE DIAGNOSTIC
Find out what is actually holding your playing back before spending more months practising the same problem.
A focused individual assessment for violinists who feel that something in their technique is not working, but are no longer sure what needs to change.
Before our session, you can submit up to two short videos of your playing so that I can prepare for the session and use our time to look beyond the obvious symptom and identify the technical patterns that may be creating the problem.

WHEN PRACTISING MORE IS NOT SOLVING THE PROBLEM
Many violinists assume that if something is not improving, they need to practise it more.
Sometimes that is exactly what keeps the problem in place.
A difficulty with vibrato may begin somewhere else in the hand, wrist, thumb or arm. Intonation problems may be connected to the way the hand is organised before the finger even reaches the string. A bowing problem may involve tension or movement patterns that are difficult to recognise while you are concentrating on producing the sound.
And once a technical pattern has been repeated for months or years, simply practising the same material can reinforce it further.
The purpose of the Violin Technique Diagnostic is to identify what is actually happening before deciding what needs more practice.
WHAT I WILL REVIEW
You may bring one main problem or several connected concerns, including vibrato, intonation, left-hand organisation, shifting, thumb position, finger movement, tension, bow control, coordination, posture, freedom of movement, or a technical problem that you have struggled to describe clearly.
You do not need to diagnose it yourself.
That is the point of the session.
BEFORE THE SESSION
After booking, you will be asked to submit up to two short videos of your playing. These may include a passage where the problem appears, a technical exercise, a scale, or a close view of the movement you are concerned about. YOUR DIAGNOSTIC INCLUDES

Individual analysis of the technical patterns I observe
One 50-minute private online diagnostic session
Explanation of what may be causing the difficulty, rather than only correcting the visible symptom
Identification of the highest-priority technical changes
Recommendations for what to work on next and what you may need to stop reinforcing
THIS IS NOT A VIOLIN LESSON
The purpose is not to fit as much repertoire or instruction as possible into one hour.
It is a concentrated technical assessment.
We look at what you are currently doing, what may be preventing the result you want, which elements are connected, and which changes deserve your attention first.
For some players, the most useful outcome is discovering that the problem they have been trying to fix is not actually the root of the problem.
WHY ONLINE WORKS PARTICULARLY WELL FOR THIS
A teacher being physically close to you does not automatically mean that the cause of a technical problem will be identified.
Many of the adult violinists I work with studied face-to-face before coming to me. In a number of cases, our work begins by changing technical habits that had already become established over years of local lessons.
What matters most in technical diagnosis is observation: what the teacher notices, how movement is interpreted, and whether the instruction addresses the cause rather than repeatedly correcting the result.
Video also gives me the opportunity to review movement before the session, replay it, compare different moments and arrive prepared.
Online is the format.
Observation is the skill.

Margarita Ceko is a conservatory-trained violinist and violin educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience. She is the founder of Melbourne Violin Academy and a Violin Technique Specialist, with a systematic approach to the development and correction of violin technique.
Her work focuses on identifying the underlying technical patterns that affect a violinist’s playing and understanding how different elements of technique work together as a system. Rather than addressing isolated problems through repetition alone, her approach is based on careful technical analysis and precise, individualised correction.
